On October 4th 1992 a plane crashed into the apartment buildings Kruitberg and Groeneveen in Bijlmer, Amsterdam.  One year later, in 1993, the  schools in the area created a book together. In order for the children to draw or write about the experience and impact it had on them. In 2022 Uitgeverij Wilde Haren & Omroep ZWART created a reissue of the book for the 30th commemoration of this tragic day. So it may never be forgotten.

For the first anniversary of the reissue, Wilde Haren asked me to design a post that would remind people of the commemoration day  and the reissue of the book.

ABOUT THE PROCESS

During the book launch in 2022 coverdesigner Serana Angelista explained the following about the design process: 

“The coverdesign is the flight path the airplane took from Schiphol before the impact in Kruitberg. Within it I saw a shape, this shape looked like a heart. Both organicly and symbolicly an eerie coincidence but also a challenge.” 

I wanted to shine a light on this story and let the people who weren’t in the room that day know about this impactful and powerful design choice. And to give them a close-up of the design. Which is why I used it in the background as well. That way, the next time they would see the cover they would look at it with a new understanding.
